Welcome Back
Today’s post is a video tutorial to help you get better results from your DreamKuts machine. I love my Dreamkuts but have seen a few posts around the web from people who are struggling to get straight cuts from theirs, and also confusion over which slots on the machine cut what. This film will help resolve some of those issues.
If you have any questions do leave me a comment here or on You Tube and I will do my best to help you out.
Best wishes and thanks for reading, see you soon
Billie

how do you cut an 8 x 8 piece on the dreamkutz. I see no help on their website. Thanks!!
Hi Dawn
If your starting piece of card/paper is 8 x8, you can use the rear slot of the machine to cut the card/paper in half. The front slot on the machine does not have any adjustment and will only take 12″ wide card to cut into thirds.
If your question is how do you use the Dreamcuts to cut a larger piece of card down to 8 X 8, then it is not possible with this machine. There are two options for cutting card on this machine. If your card is 12″ wide you can cut it into thirds with the front slot or into half using the rear slot. Anything other than 12″ card can only be put into the rear slot to be cut in half. You still have a wide selection of sizes of card that can be cut, they just need a little planning in advance. Do have another look through my film, as I demonstrate the differences between the slots within the film.
Hope this helps

Perfect, I think this is the machine for me! Thanks for the demo!

Hi Carol
It’s a great little machine, good value for the price and the blades self sharpen so no ongoing costs
Thanks for your comment, best wishes

Hello
I bought my dreamkuts a few years ago and I haven’t really used it because couldn’t work out how to use it properly…I have watched your tutorial and thought I understood how it works, but find that when I try and cut using the middle blade so it cuts in half it only scores it, and not cuts…do you know what I am doing wrong ?
thanks
Hi Sharon
Oh dear, that doesn’t sound good
The blades are intended to self sharpen, so unless you are trying to cut something very thick it should be ok. I would have expected if you were trying to cut something too thick for the machine it would just jam and stop rather than let the card into the mechanism.
A few things you could try are:
1. Try using thin card 100gsm or less, maybe even printer paper. This might not cut totally straight being so thin, but definately should cut.
2. Using the thin paper/card try cutting in the section that cuts into thirds. See if those blades show the same fault.
3. If all these things fail, all you can do is try and resolve the issue with the retailer where you bought the machine. Given that you say it is several years old this may be trickey, as they are likely to consider it wear and tear in that time scale. Maybe try contacting the manufacturers if the retailer cannot help you.
Hope that has given you a few things that will help, good luck with it.
Best wishes

Thank you so much for the tutorial.
I have a alot of 8.5 white card stock, I would like to use this machine to make a bunch of 6X4 cards. Is their a quick way to do this on this machine?
Hi Robin
Thanks for your visit and question. That size 6 x 4″ is easy to do from 12 x 12 cardstock but as the machine only cuts in halves or thirds it doesn’t quite work out for the 6×4 from the A4 card.
I work at A6 which is close at 1/8th ” shorter than 6″ and 1/8th wider than 4″. For that I put the card (landscape orientation) into the slot that cuts in half, that gives you A5. Alter the guides then put the A5 back in (landscape orientation) cut each A5 in half to get A6.
Plan B
Not a specific fix for this machine, but if you have a print shop near you they may be able to cut your card down to size for you for a charge
Plan C
From 12 x 12 ” card its really easy, cut the card in half this gives you two pieces 6 x 12″. Put the 6 x 12″ card into the slot that cuts in thirds and there you go, 6 x 4″. Repeat with the second strip and you have 6 cards at 6 x 4.
Hope that helps
Billie
Thank you! I can’t wait to go try this!
Hi Robin
Glad it was helpful, hope it works out for you
Billie
I’m finding your tutorials very helpful. I just bought one of these machines. Is there a site where I can find what sizes in inches the a4, a5 a7 work out to be?
thanks so much
Lita
Hi Lita
Wikki has a detailed entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_size
Scrol down a bit till you find the title
ISO paper sizes (plus rounded inch values)
Let me know if you are still stuck and I’ll measure what I have for you.
Best wishes

Hi Billie and thanks for your tutorial. I am really debating whether to buy one of these machines; until last week I didn’t know they existed (thanks to the lady who was doing a demo at The Range). My cutting can be a bit wonky so this might be the answer!
Many thanks.
Muffin
Hi Muffin
The Dream kuts is a very handy tool, the complaints about it cutting wonky are often due to ‘operator error’ as in you just have to go slowly and not let card go off course. Also LOTS of commercial paper isn’t cut true square, which is why finished pieces aren’t always the right size. Make sure your paper is true square first and the rest is easy. Loads of 12 x 12″ cardstock is either a bit over or a bit under on one edge or the other
It doesn’t notice till you cut it down.
Thanks for dropping by and hope you get on ok. Have fun
