Since this month’s The Virtual Crafting Challenge features the Letter B, it seemed a good time to gather my bookbinding video tutorials together for you. If you are new to bookbinding you will find this series a great place to get started.
How to Make and use A Piercing Template
A piercing template is simply a piece of card stock used to create a template or pattern of the holes that you want to pierce through your paper to prepare your book for sewing up.
You Will Need
- Cardstock cut to the same height as your book pages
- Paper cut and folded, to the finished size you want your book
- Linen thread (or embroidery thread if you’re stuck)
- Block of Bees Wax (or a candle)
- Cutting Mat
- Steel Ruler
- Craft Knife
- Needle
- Cork mat or foam mat
- Bone folder
Method
The film below shows the creation of a piercing template. This is just an example to get you started, the placement of holes on your template will vary depending on the size of your book and the number of holes and the stitching pattern you are making.
