Welcome Back
I have some very sad news today
On June 2nd, my lovely budgie Harry died.
Harrysuddenly got poorley on Saturday 29th May, the vets were closed till Tuesday because of a Bank Holiday
We tried our local vets on the Monday but the on call vet, by his own admission new nothing about birds. He spoke to a college but the first time he phoned back he was talking about symptoms Harry didn’t have. We explained the problems again, and he said his college told him what it might be and what drug to give him, bring Harry in and he would inject him. Given he knew nothing about birds and that he had got the symptoms so wrong the first time I wasn’t happy to let him near Harry.
Thanks to a link to a parrot forum, that my friend gave me, on the stamping forum. We found a truely wonderful avian vet, not too far away from us. We phoned them on Tuesday 1st June and they said bring Harry straight in. Poor Harry he really was desperately ill by then and hadn’t eaten or drunk for days. The nice vet, examined him and said he needed to keep Harry in to give him fluids to stabilise him. We phoned Wednesday morning and they said Harry had improved a little and to phone back tomorrow. Sadly though, they phoned us later that afternoon, to say Harry had died. It was always going to be a miracle if Harry had made it, but I was grateful that they had been so kind and gentle with him and given him is best shot.
I’m devastated. Thankfully the other three birds are all fit and well and don’t seem to have caught what Harry had, which is a miracle in itself. Although he was only 4 years old, Harry did have a good life, in a nice big cage with feathered friends and room to fly.
Here are links to the bird forum, where I post, which gives more details about Harry’s flying lessons, we gave him, when he started to get pudgy. Check out Tiny being Harry’s personal coach on the flying lessons.
Keep a close eye on your feathered friends, and make sure you know where your nearest avian vet is BEFORE you need one.
Billie

I’m so sorry Billie, by your posts I know how attached you are to your little friends. They are so cute and Harry sure looks like a special one.
Your flying lesson story reminded me of the two small budges we once had. They were almost always out of the cage sitting in the window and flying back at night. One time we came home late (we never locked the cage) and found one in the corner of our living-room, the poor thing hung ‘clawed’ to the wall. After that adventure I installed night lamps in spare sockets so they had landing lights in case they returned home late again. What we do for our pets
Hope you feel better soon, you must have many fond memories of this chubbie bird.
love,
Dymphie
Hi Dymphie
Thanks so much for your kind words. Yes my birdies are definately more like feathered babies, definately a big part of the family. Harry turned out not to be much over weight, he was just physically a much taller bird than the others. He was a bit fluffed up in that photo
I can see Harry now, flying like a brick, six inches off the ground. Tiny being his personal trainer and chasing him around the floor to get him moving. Bless my feathered boys.

What a beautiful budgie – and I am sorry to hear of his loss.

Oh Billie, No!
I am so very sorry. I know how you love your babies! I can’t believe it, its only been a year since Sky and Blue went to visit the heavens and now sweet Harry has joined them. My heart is breaking for you my dear friend. Please know that I am thinking of you and will pray that the memories of happier times help you through the next few weeks.
Big Hugs,
Elaine
Hi Val
Thanks for your kind words. You are right about the dates, it was 4th June last year that Sky went, and April that Blue went. Just bad luck, as they are treated like royalty, as you know.
Thanks for the hugs
much apreciated
