Birch wood knitting needles have made a huge difference to my knitting, I can't begin to do it on plastic or bamboo because of the yarn drag, metal makes my hands lock up but birch is light and warm in the hand, the yarn glides nicely over this material. I've just found Silky Surina crochet hooks and trying them in the longer 10" option to give my hand more support. Time will tell weather its possible, but I'm hoping the right hook will at least allow me to add little crochet edging to small knitted projects.

I have moderate rsi issues; I can crochet, but only for a little bit at a time. haven't found anything that helps, other than a wrist compression band, and that doesn't do much!

Very true. It was quite ironic, I got all cross that I'd bought something on a recommendation that it was good for people with dexterity and then it turned out not to be for me. I was all soap-boxy about those Looms for knitting who had been punted as good for people with poor dexterity and turned out to be the opposite.

The I realised I was guilty of doing the same thing. If something worked for me, given how ropey my hands are, I figured an item would work for anyone, but of course its not like that is it. A good wake up call that even with the best intentions, we can all comprehensively stuff our feet in our mouths! hehe

How's your art going?

luv ya lots, must rush over 2 urs for a blog visit.

It must be so frustrating for you Billie... I always take my abilities for granted - I should be a little more grateful that I can pick up a crochet hook, or a pair of knitting needles and just create something with little effort.
I completely agree with you in that dexterity, or disability is very personal to each individual and to beware of those who generalise!
It's very similar to the way Government bods (who aren't disabled), tell us how to "live", and what we "need"...

Sorry you missed the magazine, I linked to the review about it and they offer back issues if you really wanted it.

There were some cushion grips for crochet hooks on Amazon, can't remember what the search term I used was but if I find the link I'll post it.

For a first time in crochet your square is so neat and tidy and the tension is perfect. It is so sad that you can't continue with the crochet but luckily for you you are able to continue with the knitting and if something can be crocheted it can be knitted too :)
I missed getting the magazine with the crochet blanket squares in which I'm sad about. I think I will look at getting some cushion grips or my hooks though as after a while my fingers do hurt on the middle part of the crochet hook.
Hugs
