Welcome Back

Want to add some dimension to your mixed media projects? Today I’ll share how to create a textured stone effect, perfect for book covers and all kinds of projects.

Here we are for Lesson 7 in the Mixed Media workshop. This week Embossed Stone. I love this effect and it’s really easy to create with just a few simple steps and not many supplies.

Hope you have fun with this technique, do leave me a comment and show me any projects you create using it, I’d love to see what you are all making. How are you getting on with this series, are you learning lots of new techniques to take in your own directions?

If you are enjoying this series, do tell others about it, the more the merrier. See you next Wednesday for Lesson 8.

Best wishes and thanks for reading, see you soon

Billie :)

Welcome Back

Did you know there was a You Tube channel for this blog? Come and see the trailer and the new look You Tube channel.

Its been a while since I posted a video, due to health and computer issues but DH has sorted out how to get videos online again, and  I was able to create this new trailer.

Hope you like it and I look forward to creating some new videos for the channel, this year. Thanks for sticking with me during my technical difficulties ;) Just need some good weather now, to let me record some new tutorials. I’m thinking marbling, gelli, stencils?

If you liked the trailer, do come and visit me on You Tube, where you can see the new look channel. I’ve gathered related videos into playlists, so I hope you will find it easier to get to the videos, you most want to see.

Do let me know in your comments, what you think about the new design & layout. If you have any requests for projects or techniques you would like to see tutorials for, let me know and I’ll see what I can do.

Best wishes and thanks for reading, see you soon

Welcome Back

This month I’m going to try this marbling kit.

Marbling 4 Fun; Marbling kit

Marbling 4 Fun; Marbling kit

As soon as I saw this kit on Create and Craft I just had to get it, I’ve always wanted to try marbling. After some research into the process and chatting to my bookbinding friends who also paper marble I think this will be a wonderful way to try the process in a smaller more achievable scale.

Once I’ve had a play, I’ll let you know how I get on and hope to write a review and maybe some tutorials, we’ll see how I get on. I bought my kit direct from the makers and added some extras; the Violet coloured paint and the comb you see in the next picture.

Feeling tempted? Check out You Tube for Marbling 4 fun tutorials and also well worth watching are the ones for Ebru, which is Turkish marbling. Let me know in the comments if you are interested in this too and I’ll share my links for some really wonderful marbling sites and videos.

Best wishes and thanks for reading, see you soon

Welcome Back

Today I’d like to share a couple of pictures of a diary I made.

Hand made diary: 2013

Hand made diary: 2013

#928P002

The layout I created from scratch using Craft Artist software v1, the cover is made from white hammered card. The binding style is Coptic stitch, so that the book lays flat in use.

Billie :)

PS: Yes I know there aren’t any numbers on it, that was intentional, I’ll write them in, so I can use the same template each year without having to retype so much ;)

Welcome Back

Given the date, this is my last book of 2012! I created a few of these as little gifts that were small enough to put in with Christmas cards for special people this year.

Pearlescent book

Embossed book with pearlescent cover

  • The book cover is made using Centura Pearl Cardstock
  • The black card was embossed with Cuttlebug embossing folder
  • The embossed card was coloured using Pearlescent paint from Daler Rowney.
  • The construction is a pamphlet sewn binding.

Ideal for popping in your pocket/bag for little notes when you don’t want to lug a full size notebook around.

Best wishes and thanks for reading, see you soon

Welcome Back,

Still have yet to finish the Coptic stitched Anna Griffin book I’m working on as I need help creating the hole in the book board covers. In the meantime I’m sharing a picture of another little notebook that I made.

This was decorated using Anna Griffin clear stamps from QVC. It’s a quick n simple pamphlet stitched exercise style notebook. Its been ages since I’ve made a book and here we are with three on the go at the same time! Another addictive hobby.

I’ve been using it to make notes of recipe ideas that come on the TV, I used to write them on scraps of paper and either loose them or get cross when they fell out of recipe books that I would randomly stuff them into DOH! So decided it would be handy to have a dedicated book. Once I’ve tried out the recipe and decided it works or any modifications I did, then I’ll write it in clearer handwriting into the hard backed book I’m making. Still waiting on DH for help with the Dremmel ;)

Best wishes and thanks for reading, see you soon

Just wanted something quick n easy, but more decorative than the office style notebooks you get in the shops, so I made my own. This is decorated using Anna Griffin’s recent stamp set to QVC, I think it was called Fastenings?.

Coloured using Derwent Inktense and Studio pencils.
