Welcome Back

Here are some new designs I created for my pocket Filofax, mostly diary pages but also a notes page too.

Serif Craft Artist

I created these using Serif Craft Artist software. Having designed the layout framework I saved it as a layout and it meant I could then make it in Pocket size with only a few tweaks. Future pages can have colours, fonts and background page edges changed easily. Its a great way to personalise your Filofax the way you like it.

Using the software I can also save my own layouts and elements as digikits which helps with future designs. Check out the links below for more information about this brilliant, versatile software. It makes great cards, scrapbook pages and gift bags but with imagination you can do so much more with it too.

Welcome Back

Do you love to personalize your Filofax? Here is a great way make your own diary pages and add your own style without the need for loads of coloured tapes ;) that curl and stick your pages together where you didn’t want them too ;)

Filofax Personal diary page, made with Serif Craft Artist software

Filofax Personal diary page, made with Serif Craft Artist software

I used Serif Craft Artist to design the page layouts and add their pretty background papers. I’ve made the page un-dated so it can be used at any time. Being one to get a bit board of too much of the same design, it also means each month could have its own colour way or you could use the same background paper to create dashboards for other sections of your Filofax. This design turned out MUCH paler than I had expected once printed, so I’m going to go with different colour scheme for next month.

Great tip from the wonderful people on Philofaxy was NOT to use ‘Print on both sides’ options on your printer but to go with printing just one side, turning paper and feeding it back in manually.

Just love Craft Artist, I’ve now got to the stage where I can have an idea in my head and us the software to make it happen. It took a while but not as long as it did with Photoshop. Since I now won’t be printing back to back it leaves the options open for going in and adding text for the month and day numbers for each page as I go.

Welcome Back

Do you love to create backgrounds with mixed media then fall in love with them and just ‘save them’? Scan them into your computer and you can do so much more with them. This is a great way to be able to use them time and again. This was a really bright vivid photo layered over with one of my grungie acrylic backgrounds I showed you earlier in the week. Love the effect, what do you think?

Scan your favourite art projects into your computer

A while ago I was watching a tutorial on You Tube about someone making marbled paper, he said he scanned the results into his computer then could print them when ever he wanted too. Brilliant idea! I have played with acrylics and made some lovely backgrounds in the last few weeks and loved them so much they were going into the save box. Now I’ve scanned them into the computer at 1200 dpi, so I have the option of using them for digital art, or printed for papers for all kinds of things.

The images will be great for layering over other photos for grunging them up, perhaps making my own digikits to use with Serif software. Either way, its a great to design the backgrounds I love and be able to get more than one use from them. Its also great for card making/papercrafting or for using with all kinds of mixed media projects.

What if I paint something ugly?

We all do it, a background is going so well then you splosh on a new colour and hate what you get. You could try layering over it with papers or more paint OR just put the result in a box and ignore it for a bit. Your tastes change over time and if you come back to the piece another day, you often don’t remember the original plan and look at it with new eyes.

Take your favourite backgrounds and turn them into digital files for so much fun.

If you have a printer that has a scanner ontop, give this a go, you can bring your scans into Serif or Photoshop or similar and change the opacity of layers as well as adding all kinds of elements. Its a lot of fun and easy to do, I’m going to hunt through my box of favourite backgrounds and get scanning.

Hope you give it a try too, best wishes and thanks for reading, see you soon

Billie :)

Welcome Back

Here’s what happens if you scan it your favourite acrylic backgrounds into a computer and merge them. Its so ethereal, I love it. This will have more done to it as I add some text or images to it. It looks almost pearlescent.

Have I show you these two backgrounds yet? This might turn into a massive tease if not but I promise to share my original art this came from. As ever Winsor & Newton Galeria paint was used for the original art.

Do tell me if you like it in your comments.

Welcome Back

Today I’d like to share a birthday card I made using Serif Craft Artist software.

This was the card with some Polychromos highlights in areas

The image is from the Hearts and Roses collection, which has become a bit of a favorite of mine. Hope you like it. I’ve added some highlights to the shadows with the Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils, which worked well over this card-stock.

For comparison, this was the card before I added the highlights, I think the highlights help the design, what do you think?

Hi All

The strangest thing happened on Tuesday, I discovered something I was already doing is on trend! Who knew?! After getting really cross that just when I wanted to look something up, my gadget ‘needed charging’ again, I decided enough was enough and I got out my old filofax and decided to customise it and go back to using that instead. Then on Tuesday I went to You Tube and watched Suzi Blu telling everyone about her latest project for altering filofaxes! I noticed a whole flood of videos along those lines. So for the first time ever I’m doing the same thing as everyone else. But I started mine before I found it all online, so I wasn’t copying :)  hehe

Chapters or sections Designed to fit me.

Long ago I had emptied it of its original contents and being low on funds, but with time on my hands I decided to do a custom design job on the filofax.

First up what sections did I want: Diary, Contacts, Blog stuff, websites I like, Wish List, Budgets.

Pockets would be handy, so to make some storage without needing the holes punched in I made pockets on the back of the chapter pages. If I can get Premier Elements to talk to You Tube I’ll put up a tutorial video but they aren’t on speaking terms since the forced Google + thing, so don’t know how to fix it at the mo. :(

Chapter pages: Something decorative and layered. Elegant and timeless.

I created these using Serif Craft Artist software and a range of digikits.

Insert pages

Being short on funds at this time of year my DH helped me design a basic template in Word for insert pages for the filofax and I edited these for the different pages I wanted to add. It was simple to change the colours on areas on that, to suit my eyes.

So here’s the reveal so far

Leave me a comment if you would like to see more chapter page designs in the coming months. The insert pages were created using Microsoft Word.

Have you got an unloved filofax or personal organiser? Dig it out and help it feel loved again, use your favorite papers and make it less office and more personal. It’s a great place to keep creative ideas. I’m working on tabs at the moment, will share what I create when I have something pretty to share. Let me know if you would like tutorials on creating the chapter pages and I’ll see what I can do.

Best wishes and thanks for reading, see you soon
