Golden Fluid Acrylic Paint

My new Golden stash...isn't it lovely!!

Those of you who are regular followers of this blog,  will know I am doing Julie Prichard’s on line classes. Thanks to Julie, I discovered Golden Fluid Acrylic paint. I have always loved creating and thanks to Julie’s tuition, I have gotten over a lot of my fears about paint.

Golden’s Fluid Acrylics are wonderful, they blend perfectly, there are many different mediums available to change the way the paint behaves and they are just so versatile. There are around 84 colours in the range including iridescent and interference colours, by the time you add in the various mediums, the possibilities will just blow you away.

Thanks to the Acrylic Glazing Liquid, you can change opaque colours into transparent glazes. By mixing colours that would normally be transparent, with an opaque colour, you get opaque colours. I have started with a set of ten fluid acrylics. In the USA they are listed on Dick Blick site as the ‘Watermedia set’. It took me months to find a UK supplier of these paints, so at the end of the article I will link to a few shops stocking them. DO DO try and get a set to play with, in the UK the set is called ‘Principal 10 Professional Fluid Acrylics’ Golden Artist Colours. If you can’t afford the whole set, keep an eye out for my tutorials over the coming weeks, using these paints and see if you can get by with just a few.

So far my materials are limited, I use an enamelled tin plate as a pallet, which once the paint has dried washes clean for next time. I have a few cheap brushes and a small handful of quality brushes. My nice cheapie brushes were Reeves Nylon Hair, around £1 or so each from an art shop. You can apply your paint with so many different things not just a brush and each will give you a different result. So far I’ve used these paints with great success on watercolour paper and Grunge Board and Grunge Paper. If you want to try these paints out but are on a tight budget, I recommend choosing a colour you like, plus Carbon Black and Titanium white. Mixing Black into your colour will darken it and mixing white into it will lighten it, so with just three paints you will still have a tonal selection to play with.

If you are bewildered by acrylic paint (you won’t be alone) and want a bit more in depth advice do get hold of a copy of Rheni Tauchid’s book;  The New Acrylics  that I reviewed a while ago. That book goes into great detail about all kinds of acrylic paint and is sure to answer your questions. So far I am just a rookie with this paint, which I why I am pointing you to people with more knowledge on the subject. Golden’s Fluid Acrylic paint  is superb and well worth the investment.

It took me two months searching to find Golden’s Fluid Acrylic paint in the UK!  So in a break from tradition I am linking to a specific store that stocks it in the UK.

Jackson’s Art Supplies. Click on the G on the index and Golden Fluid Acrylics are listed. I use the 1 oz bottles.

Expect to see a lot more things on this blog that involve this paint! I’m loving it.

Best wishes and thanks for reading, see you soon

Welcome Back

A little while ago I joined Julie Prichard’s Layer Love Class I would so reccomend anyone who likes this style of painting, to do this class. Julie’s videos are excellent and her support of students in the Ning network, where the class is hosted, is amazing.

Here is my first painting, for Lesson 1 of the class;

I was pleased with how this painting turned out. I can see me trying to make journal pages in this kind of style, once I’ve had more practise with the technique. I’m loving these Golden products, they work so well. These Fluid Acrylics are fantastic.
