Welcome Back

In today’s post I’d like to share some techniques for adding more punch to your die cuts, this time using dimension.

You Will Need

  • Die Cuts
  • Scissors
  • Bone Folder

Method

Choose a design of die cut that will layer or has areas you can cut into. Start with bolder designs while you practice and work up to the more detailed designs. The flower in the video was cut using a Making Memories Slice Elite machine and the Vintage Findings Design Card

  • If you wish to colour and stamp onto your die cut, do that before moving on. Alternatively if you want an overall pattern you could use decorative pre printed papers or create your own inked papers, before cutting out your die cut.
  • If the underside of your finished design will be visible, colour the back of your die cut to co-ordinate with the front.

When you have your die cut as you would like it, to create dimension;

  • Cut into areas of the design.
  • Roll the edges of your die cut over your finger, or curve it using a bone folder.
  • You can curve your design in more than one dimension, for variety.

For extra depth cut a series of images either in the same size or getting progressivly smaller. Shape them as mentioned above and layer them up.

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and it has given you some ideas for how you can get more from your die cuts. There are so many beautiful designs out there, why use them flat, when they could be  much more exciting with some depth.

Have fun, and I’d love to see your finished projects.

Best wishes and thanks for reading, see you soon

Billie :)
