Welcome Back

The Virtual Crafting Challenge theme for October 2012 is:

Season’s

Great I hear you say, but now what? Well for those of you who would like a few ideas to get you started, here are some  colours, products and techniques to help you choose, where you could go with this month’s theme. Feel free to use your own ideas for the Season’s theme.

Colours

Here in the UK we just arrived at autumn, so a warm colour palette of earth tones for us

  • Reds
  • Greens
  • Yellows
  • Browns

Of course if you live outside the UK you are likely to have a different colour palette to match your own current season, choose from that for your project this month.

Techniques & Styles

Lets go off the wall a bit this month, how about trying a different craft for the first time. Here’s a few to get your ideas going

  • Art be that painting/drawing or paper crafts
  • Jewellery making
  • Knitting. There are some fabulous yarns around in all the colours you can imagine
  • Holiday projects. There are plenty of holidays coming up, where ever you are in the world jump in early and save yourself some stress.
  • Baking. (My cooking is awful but I bet yours is great) How about baking up your favorite supper/pudding with seasonal products.

The most important thing about this challenge is that you have fun and explore. Don’t feel pressured to have a finished item at the end of the month. Explore different styles and techniques either in person, if you have the supplies, or through research, looking online.

You learn so much more when you take away the rules and just PLAY. Adapt this challenge to a creative style that interests you. Enjoy :)

Best wishes and thanks for reading, see you soon

Billie :)

Welcome Back

There is a virtual challenge that I run over on www.stampingmadforum.co.uk called The Virtual Crafting Challenge.

This month’s challenge theme is

‘Crafting with CDs’

CDs/ DVDs

Commercially available CDs can create all sorts of styles of papers, cards, embellishments.

  • Create a new background paper
  • Create embellishments
  • Design and make a card
  • Design and make a scrapbook page

CDs to craft onto

Every day companies are including free CDs in the mail we receive and in the magazines that we buy, instead of throwing them in the bin…craft with them. Use an unwanted CD to;

  • Decorate-stamp onto it, cover it
  • Make a clock
  • Make a photo frame
  • Use your computer to craft
  • Make a brag book

If you haven’t heard about The Virtual Crafting Challenge before, there is more information on what it is about how it works ‘here’. There you will also find a sneaky peak at the upcoming themes for the rest of the year.

These links will take you to a couple of suppliers of CDs and DVDs that contain background papers as well as main images.

Welcome Back

The Virtual Crafting Challenge is a monthly themed challenge, aimed at getting you to try new crafts and use the products you have in new ways. Each month I will set a general theme, how you interpret it and what you do is entirely your choice. It is all about the journey, so having fun trying things is more important than having a finished piece by the end of the month.

Here is a selection of themes that are coming up in 2009, starting in February.

  • Embellishments
  • Crafting with CDs
  • Paper & Card
  • Beads & Wire
  • Peel Offs, Stickers & Rub Ons
  • Pigment Powders & Chalks
  • Stenciling
  • Shrink Plastic & Acetate
  • Lacquers & Glazes
  • Pens, Pencils & Paints

Thank you everyone who took part in The Virtual Crafting Challenges in 2008.  I hope you have enjoyed your journey and the challenge of new themes each month. Maybe you have found some new techniques that you have enjoyed or made some new friends along the way.
Every journey begins with a single step.  I look forward to seeing you for the next part of our journey starting next year.

Have a happy healthy holiday and I’ll see you in the New Year, with a new set of Challenges.
Best wishes

Billie xxx

Welcome Back

Here are the details of this month’s challenge, the idea behind this challenge is to get you using the products you already have in new ways or to try something different. The options listed under the products are just a few ideas to get you started. How you use these inks is up to you, your crafting journey is unique to you, see where it will take you this month with…

Inks 2

Pigment Inks

These are slow drying and perfect for embossing and direct to paper techniques.

  • Embossing
  • Stamping on different surfaces
  • Direct to paper

Solvent Based Inks
These are very useful for stamping onto non porous surfaces.  They are also useful if you want to create a stable image that can be coloured with water colour mediums.  Examples of these inks would be Stayz On & Alcohol Inks
Glossy Paper/card
Acetate
Shrink Plastic
Water colour over a stamped image

Have fun and remember ‘Its All About The Journey’, it is more important to have a go and have some fun rather than trying to make a finished piece for this challenge.

Best wishes and see you soon

Billie :)
