Snow

The snow arrived BIG time yesterday, it has snowed constantly for 2 days now and we have a foot of snow out there. Will take a pic, when its safe to do so. Need to dig out the wild birds water bowl its totally burried. The feeders are very popular today with chaffinches, blue tits and great tits on there. The robbin and dunnock are looking hungry too.

If you have to travel, go careful and stay as warm as you can.

Best wishes and thanks for reading, see you soon

Welcome Back

Originally this project started out as a way to collect together memorabilia from a holiday, it then evolved into a handy storage journal for hand-made cards.

Card Storage Journal; Cover

Card Storage Journal; Cover

This is my first major project with the Bind It All machine and after working out how to make a cutting template so I got the holes just where I wanted them I was much happier. I used mat board for the covers (the kind picture framers use for layering) and added my own stamped papers to decorate the pages.

On the inside cover I added a pocket to hold stamps, and then each envelope pocket holds a different month’s cards. I made little tab labels to easily navigate to the month I was looking for and the Making Memories Calendar stamp set made a nice finish to them. On the note page on each envelope I’m going to write the date and name of the person who needs a card, then when I’ve made a card I just pop it in the envelope ready. No more scrabbling around at the last-minute. I was going to add a ribbon closure then forgot when I pasted on the end papers DOH, now I’m waiting as I’m saving up for one of Tim Holtz Sizzix dies and hope to make a fancy closure with it and some grunge paper.

This would make a great present for a friend and if you would like a detailed tutorial on how to make one leave me a comment and I’ll try to get one up in good time so you can make some as holiday gifts for friends and family.

Best wishes and thanks for reading, see you soon

Welcome Back

In today’s post, I’m sharing a picture of my very first fabric covered book.

My First Fabric Covered Book

My First Fabric Covered Book

Back in early May a good friend Crafty Nanna took pity on my lack of sewing skills and came round to get me started with sewing. She also very kindly left me a huge pile of fabric to play with. The fabric I covered the book with has a lovely suede finish. Very tactile, and would make great books for men. I covered the book board with a light layered of PVA and applied the fabric. The turn in’s on the corners were tricky, as if I applied too much glue it seeped through and marked the surface.

Here is the book, once it has been decorated

I created an ATC using Tim Holtz Distress Inks and Versa Fine in Onyx Black

Stamps: Crafty Individuals; 204, Elusive Images; UA6GW0194; Words of Inspiration, Hero Arts; H2365 Old French Writting.

Binding Style: The book is bound in my favorite Coptic Stitch using brown linen thread. The book is just over A7 in size, perfect for popping into your pocket.

This piece fits in with this month’s theme of ‘F’ for The Virtual Crafting Challenge, ‘F’ for Fabric :)

Best wishes and thanks for reading, see you soon

Billie :)
