Welcome Back
At long last here are some pictures of my first leather bound book. I’m afraid I don’t know the exact type of leather that this is made of as it came in an assorted batch. The binding style is known as Long Stitch. I actually made this on 5th August but had to sort out the pictures before I could post it.
This book measures two inches square and has 48 sheets of 90lb/190gsm water colour paper, it was sewn with 25/3 cord waxed linen thread. Just goes to show that good things can come in small packages.
I was surprised at how easy it was to cut the leather, I used a normal utility knife with a new blade and it was very easy to cut through and was also a delight to sew. I’ll be making more of these and looking out for larger pieces of leather so I can make some books a bit bigger.
Best wishes and thanks for reading
Billie xx
Well done – this is absolutely gorgeous! Lol Lynn x
Looks great!!
This looks good! The leather looks good and I am a fan of thick quadratic book. The choice of thread give a nice overall look.
What paper did you use on the inside?
And does the book have a closure? On the second picture it looks like the leather might wrap around. Does it stay shut on its own?
Thanks everyone for you lovely comments.
Hi Buechertiger
The paper in the book is watercolour paper, it was a bit too heavy really, but it was all I had to hand at the time. As for the closure, I have since trimmed the extra leather off the back cover as it was too short to wrap around. This book was made from an off cut, scrap piece of leather so I was limited to the length available. I am currently working on closures, so keep an eye out and when I have pictures they will go up on the blog.
Thanks for taking the time to leave me comments
Billie 🙂
