Welcome Back
Today I would like to share a tutorial on how to make an Exploding box, any size you choose, no need for templates. Sounds good, it is and its dead easy too 😉 With embellishing your box can look like this;
You will need
- Three pieces of square cardstock the same size, any size
- Scoring tool
- Metal Ruler
- Craft Knife
- Self healing cutting mat
- Pencil
- Optional extra; Scor It Bord
Method
First we will make the box itself;
- Score your first piece of card in thirds
- Rotate the card 90 degrees and score into thirds again
- Your card looks like this
- Cut off the four outer corner squares (shown marked A, C,G and I
- Trim these ‘offcuts’ a little and glue them back onto the inside of B, D, F and H
Your Box now looks like this;
- Decorate with any additional images and embellishments
For the inner box;
- Score your second piece of card in thirds
- Rotate the card 90 degrees and score into thirds again
- Your card looks like this
- This time we cut off squares D and F
Your card now looks like this;
To assemble this inner box;
- Glue square C to the inside of square I
- Glue square A to the inside of square G
- Glue the base of the box (square E) to the centre of the main box.
For the lid;
- Take your thrid piece of card, score cut and assemble as shown on Erin Michele’s You Tube video for the Gift Box http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=q3ROyc7iEZY Your card must be the same size as the main box so that once folded it will perfectly fit.
The completed box, once open;
I haven’t yet added additional decoration to the inside pages as I ran out of time. Do feel free to embellish to your hearts content. Use fairly sturdy card and you could put any kind of gift suitable to the person you are giving it too. These boxes make excellent alternatives to crackers and are perfect for people with limited dexterity. Add a gift tag to the outside of the box and they also make perfect place settings too.
By changing the paper/card you use these would be great for weddings, christenings, baby showers etc.
Have fun and if you get stuck do leave me a comment and I’ll try and help you out.
Best wishes and thanks for reading
