Welcome Back
Today I’d like to share a watercolour painting I made of a crocus. When it came through in the garden the colour was so vivid I had to try to capture the moment.
Materials
- Winsor and Newton Watercolour paint
- Paper Weave watercolour card
- Pro Arte Renaissance Sable brush
I hope you like it, it was a challenge but thanks to using Billy Showell’s book A-Z of Watercolour Flowers for reference for mixing the colours it went ok. Highly recommend that book.
Best wishes and thanks for reading see you soon

It loos really sweet.
Thanks ๐
You managed to retain the white to highlight the colours – mine often muddy too much. Beautiful
Hi Sally
Thanks, I was pleased how they turned out. I was using Billy Showell’s book for colour mixing references and the fowers were in the garden. Lucky I painted it when I did, before the weather turned ๐
Have a look at the Art Tab at the top of the blog, I’ve linked to Billy Showell’s blog in the blog section there. Her books and DVDs are excellent and hav eso many tips in them.
Best wishes
Billie
Fabulous – and so life like
Beautiful Billie, gorgeous deep purple/blue that often represens the crocus. I can imagine that this was not easy but you have captured it perfectly.
