Welcome Back

Another slightly different challenge for you today, a little hard on the heals of the last one, but often the two can be combined.

The Virtual Crafting Challenge is designed to get you using the products you have, but may have forgotten about or to try new things. There is a general theme set each month, but how you interpret it and weather you have a finished product at the end of the month is entirely personal choice. This challenge is more about having fun and playing with what you already have 😉

This months theme is;

We used to call these paper fasteners years ago, but America has made these into beautiful embellishments. They are now available in a wide variety of colours and shapes. Use alcohol ink or acrylic paint to change the colour of your existing brads to co-ordinate with your projects.

These are plastic simulated jewels. Gems are available in a wide variety of colours and sizes to suit all kinds of projects. Some are available as self adhesive.

These metal embellishments are no longer just available in plain coloured rings but in a wide variety of sizes,shapes and colours. You will need a tool of some kind to set eyelets into your projects. Eyelets can be used on a variety of surfaces.
All of these embellishments could be used in the following ways;

  • As centers to flowers
  • For attaching embellishments
  • For attaching velum
  • For attaching other mats to your piece

Ribbons are available in all manner of shapes, colours, materials and designs.  Using the right ink you can also stamp onto them.

  •  As a flourish to the side of a card
  • To draw the eye to particular area of the card
  • To attach a card insert with or without using glue

This site has details of how to set eyelets

Have fun with this, these are only a few ideas to get you started. Maybe try making your own embellishments out of all kinds of things.

This is your journey use whatever inspires you.

Best wishes and thanks for reading, see you soon

Welcome Back

The Virtual Crafting Challenge is a monthly themed challenge, aimed at getting you to try new crafts and use the products you have in new ways. Each month I will set a general theme, how you interpret it and what you do is entirely your choice. It is all about the journey, so having fun trying things is more important than having a finished piece by the end of the month.

Here is a selection of themes that are coming up in 2009, starting in February.

  • Embellishments
  • Crafting with CDs
  • Paper & Card
  • Beads & Wire
  • Peel Offs, Stickers & Rub Ons
  • Pigment Powders & Chalks
  • Stenciling
  • Shrink Plastic & Acetate
  • Lacquers & Glazes
  • Pens, Pencils & Paints

Thank you everyone who took part in The Virtual Crafting Challenges in 2008.  I hope you have enjoyed your journey and the challenge of new themes each month. Maybe you have found some new techniques that you have enjoyed or made some new friends along the way.
Every journey begins with a single step.  I look forward to seeing you for the next part of our journey starting next year.

Have a happy healthy holiday and I’ll see you in the New Year, with a new set of Challenges.
Best wishes

Billie xxx
