Welcome Back
In today’s post I’d like to share a picture of the latest sewing project I just finished;
Now I seem to have been bitten by the knitting bug, I thought it would be nice to have a knitting bag, rather than a Really Useful box that I had been using for my yarn, especially for the longer needles!
This bag started from the fabric produce bag instructions on Daisy Janie’s Blog. It evolved as I went on, and this is the second generation. I altered the order in which I created the seams to give a neater finish to the top edge. My fabric is upholstery weight so was too bulky for the shorter second handle, so I cut extra fabric to create the second handle. When I’ve had more practice it would be nice to add a pocket to the front for my notebook of instructions, and a ribbon to hold my needles to the inside. But this is a very nice compact bag to have just by the chair and not too bulky to carry around.
The small size also stops me filling the bag with everything I own relating to knitting, which I simply do not need next to me for the project in hand and would otherwise clutter up the bag! (You can tell I’m a new knitter eh, bet you get more and more stash and give up this neat freak thinking as you go along 😉 )
When I get to grips with interfacing I’d love to try to make a Bagsket, as seen on Foofangle’s excellent tutorial, now this looks a great way to stop your ball of yarn disappearing across the room. But that is a project for much further down the line, when I stop buying other craft stash and have some funds left for buying fabric. 😉
The little tag features Zig Calligraphy markers, highlighted with Wink of Stella pens. I’m making one of these for MIL for a Mothers Day gift and wanted to practice the lettering.
There are some truly superb tutorials for sewing projects around blog land. I’ve collected some useful sites together at the top of the blog, under the tab marked ‘Textiles’. Just a few to get you started. If you have favorites you’d like to share, let me know and I’ll check em out 🙂
Best wishes and thanks for reading, see you soon

Fun post Billie – and that’s a superb bag! Well done you! =)
Hi Rosie
Thanks 🙂 I’m not sure about the centre seam at the back showing, but for prototype its ok. Off to make lots more for gifts. Its these or pom pom scarves for people what do you think?

Love the bag and all these things you make for your MIL! She obviously appreciates them 🙂 Can I be your MIL for a while?????? 🙂
Now will there ever be a time when you will stop buyig craft stash? I think not! There is always something new to try.

Hi Lynn
Thanks 🙂 I’ve just finished her gloves and using the Serif program to make gifto bag for them 🙂
As for stopping buying craft stash, only if my puter stopped playing 😉 The GREAT news is, thanks to tips from Minxy I finally got the Slice to work today 🙂 🙂 Just need to get more glue to improve the paper stick to the mat then I can really play. Sooo many cards I love. But must wait till I’ve repaired savings for the machine before I look.
God bless cyber buddies for great tips and support, God bless Ebay for bargins 🙂 🙂 🙂

Great news on the Slice working, well done and so glad you could find someone to help you out there – it will be all systems go now 🙂 It is such a downer when you pay out big money for a machine and expect great things and then it doesn’t do what it says o the box. All is not lost now though. So pleased 🙂
Couldn’t live without ebay!! Our daughter is getting married this summer and she has bought almost everything off ebay – her dress (custom made in China for less than a £100!), shirts, waistcoats and cravats for the men, novelty cufflinks, her shoes and matching bag, fabric roses for the children’s ‘buttonholes’. Saved herself an absolute fortune 🙂

Hi Lynn
Congrats to your daughter and on her lucky purchases too. Its mad what some people spend on weddings isn’t it.
