Welcome Back
In today’s post a peek into my art journal, where I’ve been doodling with my new Zig Art & Graphic pens.
Pens used; Zig Art & Graphic set of 12 Muted tones.
Sketchbook Used: Daler Rowney; Ebony Sketchook
If you haven’t already, you have to try these pens! They are unlike anything else, but truly wonderful. The Art & Graphic pens work beautifully on the 150gsm acid free paper in the Daler Rowney sketchbooks.
Best wishes and see you soon

Billie –
This is doodling? You are joking, yes? Because this is just so beautiful! There is something so “Zen” about it. Looking at this page just makes me feel good Billie. What a beautiful job!

Hi Elaine
Well it was doodling with purpose if that counts. I worked out the Rock n roll technique for the flowers using Zig Brushables, then tried using the Art n Graphic pens with the same technique. Works well and I’m really pleased with the results glad you like it.
I’d like to take more credit but its part technique part the amazing pens. Check out the video tutorial I posted last friday 😉 The bamboo was created using adapted techniques from Chinese brush painting.

Agree with Elaine this is beautiful. Wish my doodling turned into works of art like this 🙂
Need some advice Billie – I am in the process of making a photo album. I’ve made the covers but unsure what to use for the pages. It is to be a wedding present for our daughter and future son-in-law and I thought I’d leave the pages blank of photos so they can add whichever ones they want but I want to add some stamping decoration to the pages and, perhaps, some journalling spots. Which paper would you recommend? Or would it be better to go with thin cardstock do you think?
Hugs

Hi Lynn
Thanks 🙂
I’ll email you about the album, this could be a long conversation 😉

Amazing work, and I have to agree with the others, it’s a tad more than *doodling*
Truly lovely.

Hi Myrtle
I’d like to take more credit but without these particular pens I couldn’t do anything like this. Its the special nibs and the unique ink flow that helps create the effects.
I was just playing with the pens, and these flowers appeared. I posted a video of how to make them last friday 😉
Best wishes
Billie 🙂
Hi
I hope you dont mind me asking but which paper do you use with the art and graphic pens. I’m having trouble blending the ink once its on my card even though I have invested in watercolour paper.
Thanks and your art is lovely
Hi Terry
I have used several kinds of card. The one in this particular picture is with a sketch book from Daler rowney. Give me a few days and I’ll find you a link to the specific one.
ALternatively I have also used water colour card and also Bright white card 160 gsm from Ryman (the office supply store) It does grab the ink and isn’t too keen on over working it. I found the Daler rowney sketch book ideal for practice. As for blending, try scribbling ink on to a tile and using a slightly damp brush to pick up the ink and apply that to your card. Once that layer is dry add further layers to darken the tone.
Have a look at this tutorial I put up for Brushables as it shows the watercolouring technique I use https://billiescraftroom.wordpress.com/2011/03/04/video-tutorial-zig-brushables/
Hope that helps. I’ll find the link for the book soon but can’t stay on here long as I’ve crocked my back
Best wishes
Billie 🙂
I’m back, I found the link quicker than I thought I would. Try these:

Not sure its the same as mine but its the closest still made. My series was an earlier one. The other one I use a lot and adore is
http://www.daler-rowney.com/en/content/daler-rowney-sketchbooks
The Natural one and blue wave when I can get it. Lovely surface, it will take a little pen and wash and water colour if you don’t over work it too much.
Depends on the kind of style you are going for 😉
Hope you find something that works for you
Billie 🙂
