This is the strange case of the colour change Filofax!

After I missed the chance of a blue (light blue) A5 Finsbury on Ebay, I leapt at the chance to get an A5 one in Electric Blue from WHSmiths online sale. They had the A5 binder for £60 instead of £80. Ordered on the Friday it was delivered on Wednesday 4th June in the morning but…here’s where it gets strange.

Box or no Box?

I thought, being the more expensive and leather Finsbury, that it would be in a nice sturdy Slip case style box (as my mini had been) but no sexy Filofax branded box, just a flimsy white one with just a barcode sticker.

Sad box from WH.Smiths no sexy Slip case :(

The binder did arrive in a padded envelope, and inside had a fabric wrap (like the material that comes round the rings).

There was a fabric wrap around the binder inside the box

followed by the clear plastic binder ‘branded cover’.

The colour Electric blue or Purple?

The colour (which I like and prefer to the look on the website) I would call Purple, the blue end of purple nothing like the red tone colour bias of the Pennybridge or Malden but if you are buying online it doesn’t come up like the cobalt end of Elelctric blue as the pictures suggest either. Strangely though, when I tried to take a photo of it, through the lens it turns the blue bias colour you see online! So I took another picture with what in real life looks to me like electric blue pen.

Contents & materials

The contents varies from the Filofax own site, in that you get top-loading envelope in place of the business card one (a bonus in my case but be aware if you want lots of card storage) this is listed in the WHSmiths description though. Colours of paper varied too but that’s being picky.

The back inside pocket’s surface feels tacky/grippy, ie almost sticky to the touch, that pocket area feels like faux leather or vinyl not like the leather on the rest of the binder. It also looks a bit different material. I can’t decide if that pocket is leather or has just reacted to being against the plastic top loading pocket for storage.
Diary: Week on Two pages; YEY but..I’m not keen on the column layout version personally BUT since we are only just into June it was a nice surprise to find a complete 2015 diary included. I’d expected it to still contain 2014 so a nice surprise.
I love this Filofax, and the purple/violet cast to the colour, if that’s its standard colourway I’ll be seriously considering getting a Personal one too, I’d have leapt at that chance as they too were reduced on the WHSmiths site to £44 instead of £55. This is almost a review but I’ve not used it yet, so I’ll post again once I’ve ‘moved in’ to it.
